President Uhuru Kenyatta’s cousin Captain Kungu Muingai has been replaced by Kinyua Mwangi as the patron of the Kikuyu Council of Elders, after talks of a division among the elders on who should head the powerful Kiama Kia Ma council.

The elders, who are currently meeting at the Luisoi Resort in Kieni, will install Mr. Mwangi, a move aimed at ending the leadership feud which has rocked the council for some time now.

The appointment is a huge blow to Speaker JB Muturi who was controversially installed as the region’s spokesperson in March by Captain Kungu’s faction.

According to the chairman of Kikuyu Council of Elders (KCE) Wachira Kiago, they were in full support of the crowning of Kinyua as the patron, saying he has served the community very well and is a ”great peacemaker”.

“We support Kinyua, and we are all united in this exercise. We are satisfied that Kinyua will be able to offer astute and progressive leadership,’’ said Kiago.
