The government and the opposition talks are set to kick off today in Nairobi at the Bomas of Kenya in attempts by President William Ruto and Opposition leader Raila Odinga to resolve the underlying issues behind the violent demonstrations that rocked the country from March.
The talks will be conducted by a 10-member joint committee and are due to start at 11:30 am.
But no timeframe has been set for their duration and the exact agenda is the subject of contention.
The Kenya Kwanza team will be led by National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wa and comprises his Senate counterpart Aaron Cheruiyot, Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire, EALA MP Hassan Omar, and Bungoma Woman Rep Catherine Wambilianga.
On the other hand, the Azimio team is led by Kalonzo Musyoka, Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi, DAP-Kenya Eugene Wamalwa, Nyamira Senator Okong’o Omogeni, and Malindi MP Amina Mnyanzi.
