Kawira Mwangaza to Host ODM’s Linda Mwananchi in Meru

Former Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza has officially aligned herself with the Linda Mwananchi faction and announced plans to host the group in Meru as she positions herself for a comeback bid in 2027.

Mwangaza met with self-proclaimed ODM leader James Orengo and Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi on Thursday in Nairobi, where the Meru visit was discussed.

”Linda Mwananchi Meru Tour loading… 80%,” Orengo wrote.

The former governor has officially declared her intention to run for the Meru gubernatorial seat. Her candidacy comes after a turbulent term that was cut short by her impeachment in 2025, following multiple attempts by the Meru County Assembly to remove her from office.

“I remain committed to serving the people of Meru,” Mwangaza stated.

Mwangaza’s path back to the governor’s office, however, faces legal and constitutional challenges.

Under Kenyan law, a public official who has been impeached and had the decision upheld by the Senate is barred from holding any public office.

However, sources close to the former governor indicate that she has actively pursued legal recourse to challenge the impeachment findings, with her legal team exploring constitutional arguments to overturn or circumvent the ban from office, though the success of such efforts remains uncertain.

By hosting the Linda Mwananchi group in Meru, Mwangaza appears to be laying the groundwork for a revitalized Meru gubernatorial campaign, with backing from the Orengo led group.
