Kalonzo allies decry Odinga’s formidable war chest in Ukambani

Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Jr says there are plans by ODM leader Raila Odinga to isolate Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka in Ukambani, using the region’s three governors, Charitity Ngilu (Kitui), Kivutha Kibwana (Makueni) and Alfred Mutua (Machakos).

Speaking to a local publication on Wednesday, Senator Kilonzo Jr alleged an elaborate plan by Mr. Odinga and his allies in the region to pour huge amounts of resources as well as take advantage of the mobilizing power of county governors to annihilate Mr. Musyoka.

”We are aware of the plans. The idea is to isolate Kalonzo and create a narrative that he has lost his grip. In addition, there is a notion that governors have resources to mobilise crowds,” said Makueni Senator
Mutula Kilonzo Jnr.

He added: “Raila is welcome but these schemes will only harden our resolve not to be bulldozed. The governors cannot marshal Kambas even if they have all the resources in the world.”

Currently, the former prime minister enjoys the support of the three Ukambani county governors, something making the Wiper leader have sleepless nights, considering his turf is being raided by two formidable opponents (Raila Odinga and William Ruto).

Another ally of the Wiper leader, Dan Maanzo says the ODM leader will not gain much from the region even if he uses the three governors to marshall support.

”Raila is using the three governors but I don’t think it has any consequence since the rally will earn him no votes. Even if he used the governors there will be no impact at all. This means that Raila has not understood the politics of Ukambani and it is a clear indication that he does not wish to work with Wiper,” the Machakos MP said.

The ODM boss is expected to tour the region in the coming days for his Azimio la Umoja convention.
