Former police spokesperson Charles Owino whose eyes are trained on the Siaya gubernatorial seat next year has picked Rose Midiwo, wife to the late Jakoyo Midiwo as running mate as he lays ground to marshall the county behind him ahead of 2022.

Owino who will be fighting it out with Siaya Senator James Orengo and former MP Nicholas Gumbo for the ODM party ticket in the primaries says he picked Rose Midiwo because he had assured Siaya residents he would have a woman as his deputy.

“I have decided to pick Rose as my running mate and we have agreed to work together,” Owino said.

This move has been backed by the family of the late Gem MP, which is also fronting Jalango Midiwo to run for the Gem parliamentary seat currently held by Elisha Odhiambo, an ally of Senator James Orengo.

Owino’s choice of a running mate from Gem is seen as a deliberate move meant to woo the people of Gem to support him.

Speaking over the weekend in Gem, the former police spokesperson said he will prioritise food security and pledged to revive cotton growing in Rarieda, Alego-Usonga and Gem.
