Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has clinched a significant legal victory in the protracted battle for control of the Jubilee Party, dealing a crushing blow to a rebel faction that had sought to wrest the outfit from his leadership.
In a ruling delivered on Thursday, June 12, 2025, the High Court validated the resolutions of the Jubilee Party’s Special National Delegates Convention (SNDC) held in May 2023, which reinstated Uhuru as party leader and restructured the party’s top leadership.
The court’s decision also affirms Saitoti Torome as the new National Chairman and Jeremiah Kioni as Secretary-General, formally ousting the rival faction led by East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP Kanini Kega.
The legal turnaround was triggered by Jubilee chairman Nelson Dzuya’s surprise decision to withdraw his support from the Kega-led group and file a consent recognising the legitimacy of the SNDC.
The move was formalised through lawyer Jackson Awele and supported by a fresh legal team representing the party’s Internal Dispute Resolution Committee (IDRC).
