Governor Cornel Rasanga is eyeing the Alego Usonga MP seat after finishing his final term as the Siaya governor, a position he has held from 2013 to date.

Plans by Rasanga to go for the MP seat have rubbed the current holder of the position, Samuel Atandi, who has told the Siaya county chief to focus on national politics instead.

Speaking in Gem,  Atandi asked Rasanga to emulate fellow governor, Wycliffe Oparanya also on his final term but has decided to step into the national arena to campaign for a Raila Odinga presidency next year.

“I would urge you to go and help Raila to campaign for the presidency just like Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya has opted to do. Don’t fall for people’s lies asking you to compete with me,” MP Atandi said, going ahead to ask the governor to declare 2022 intentions.

Last Friday, Rasnga held an extensive meeting with elders from Kakan in Alego at his Segere home where he was reportedly endorsed to run for MP next year. Contacted on the reports, the governor did not confirm or deny he will run for the Alego Usonga parliamentary seat and said it was the people who will decide who their next MP is.

”It is upon the people of Alego to decide who is their next MP. If they feel I have done the best with the governor position and that I can represent them in parliament, then that is it,” he said.
