Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya will run for the Butere MP position 2022 a seat he previously held between 2002 to 2013 when he became governor.

All indications show the ODM Deputy Leader has his eyes trained on the national table, with reports his name is among those proposed to be Deputy Prime Ministers, in a formula involving Raila Odinga and William Ruto.

According to sources, candidates who had lined up to run for the Butere MP seat have either been given plum jobs in the Kakamega county government or have resolved not to run against the Deputy ODM leader in 2022.

”The county’s Chief Administrative Secretary Larence Omuhaka was to be the governor’s biggest challenger in Butere. But as things stand, he will not run in 2022,” a source said.

Before his appointment as the Chief Administrative Secretary, Mr. Omuhala was the county’s chief financing officer.

Governor Oparanya had already submitted his name to be among presidential ticket contenders within the ODM Party.

Also touted to have his eyes trained on MP seat, is Mombasa Governor Joho whose handlers say is likely to run in Kisauni. Joho, another Deputy ODM Leader, submitted his papers for the party for its presidential ticket.

Even though Nyali constituency was identified as the most likely constituency for the Mombasa boss, reports indicate his team is already laying pipes in Kisauni in anticipation of his run as MP.

Those talking of an Odinga-Ruto alliance have Governors Joho and Oparanya at the center of the equation, with the Deputy PM positions in mind.
