Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has publicly backed President William Ruto’s recent decision to nominate leaders from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) to the Cabinet. Speaking at St. Stephen Catholic Parish in Kinangop, Nyandarua County, on Sunday, Gachagua affirmed his commitment to collaborative governance.
“I have no objection with the new nominees and formation of a broad-based Government by the President. Let the new nominees come; we work together for the people of Kenya,” he stated, countering any perceptions of discontent within the government ranks.
Gachagua, who serves as Ruto’s Principal Assistant, reiterated his loyalty: “My work is to support the President, be loyal, advise, and work with him.” His remarks come as Kenyans anticipate a more inclusive political landscape with the inclusion of ODM nominees Wycliffe Oparanya, Hassan Joho, John Mbadi, and Opiyo Wandayi.
Additionally, Gachagua highlighted the significance of accountability in governance, urging citizens to hold leaders responsible for their decisions. “We should start questioning our leaders to enhance accountability in governance,” he urged.
While addressing claims of tribalism, he emphasized his affection for the Mt Kenya community but reiterated his dedication to uniting all Kenyans. “Let us love each other, support each other, stay close to each other and care for each other,” Gachagua implored, calling for unity amid the formation of a broad-based government.
