COTU boss Francis Atwoli is the new spokesperson of the Luhyia nation following resolutions made in Kakamega over the weekend at a meeting attended by four governors and 18MPs from the populous region.

On Sunday, governors Mr. Wycliffe Oparanya (Kakamega), Mr. Wycliffe Wangamati (Bungoma), Mr. Sospeter Ojaamong (Busia), and Wilbur Ottichilo (Vihiga), together with the MPs tasked Atwoli to take charge, coordinate, and help the western region in negotiating to be a part of the next government.

”I want to thank the Governors, Members of Parliament and all the present grassroots leaders from Western Kenya for appointing me as the Western Kenya coordinator. Our region has enough numbers to form and/or be part of the next government,” Dr. Atwoli said.

”There is no reason to be divided. We are united with a stand and we know where we are going. This meeting was not meant to alienate anybody from the region from the political mainstream because we focused on issues and not personalities,” the COTU boss said after his selection.

The meeting, which was held at the Golf Hotel in Kakamega mandated Mr. Atwoli to start negotiating with Raila Odinga before December 31, 2021, when they will meet for Bukhungu II, to make a resolution as a region.

”From today, the western region will speak in one voice and will not entertain any leader who will not work with others towards forming the next government. The community shall, by all means, strive to form or be part of the next government,” Vihiga Governor Wilber Otichillo read the resolutions in part.
