Cabinet Secretary for Defense Eugene Wamalwa and Kakamega governor Wycliffe Oparanya say Western Kenya is Raila Odinga’s turf and the region will rally behind the former prime minister to the last man as he makes a fifth stab to the presidency next year.
Speaking at a fundraiser for the AFC football at the Karen club in Nairobi, the two leaders pledged to bring on board everyone in the region, especially leaders in other political factions to explain to them and help them understand how the Western region is set to benefit from an Odinga presidency next year.
”Our region made up its mind. We know where we are headed and the people you see here, will be a part of the team to ensure we are in government after His Excellency retires,” Defense Secretary Eugene Wamalwa said in the fundraiser where he was the Chief Guest.
On his part, Kakamega governor Wycliffe Oparanya dismissed those who were claiming Western Kenya was no longer a stronghold of the ODM. Oparanya, also the party’s deputy leader has shelved his presidential ambition and is throwing his weight behind the former prime minister.
The fundraiser saw AFC leopards receive 8M shillings contribution, part of it from President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga.
