UDA Party agent in the just concluded Matungu by-elections, and former Sports CS Rashid Echesa has been transferred to the DCI headquarters in Nairobi, after spending a night at the Kakamega Police Station on Friday.

Echesa, a strong ally of DP William Ruto was caught on tape physically assaulting a Returning Officer and arrested on Friday after he presented himself at Mumias Police Station.

According to Western Region police commander Peris Kimani, Mr. Echesa is transferred to Nairobi because there are other investigations being carried on the former CS and they can only be handled by the DCI.

”There are investigations being conducted by the DCI and that’s why he is being transferred there. This matter is being handled by the DCI,” Mrs Kimani told the press.

The Matungu mini poll was marred by incidences of voter bribery, intimidation, violence, and police brutality. The bodyguard of Senator Cleophas Malala, a police constable, was also arrested, along with six other goons of Senator Malala after storming a police station and disrupted voting.
