President William Ruto has issued a statement following the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Wednesday, September 27, 2023 announcement that Kenya, alongside Uganda and Tanzania will host the AFCON 2027.

Speaking at the Nairobi ASK Showground, the Head of State welcomed the news and congratulated the Ministry of Sports for being at the forefront of fighting for the success of the bid.

He went ahead to note that Kenya being picked as one of the continental event’s hosts indicates ongoing reforms in the Sports docket are paying off.

”Many people never believed that we had a chance of hosting AFCON in 2027 because of the state of our football and our sports in general,” he added.

Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania jointly tabled their 2027 bid, commonly known as the AFCON Pamoja Bid, and after waiting for months, CAF confirmed it had accepted the East African offer.
