68 out of 69 MCAs sign motion to impeach Meru Governor

1 min read

Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) of Meru have appended their signatures on a motion seeking to have Governor Kawira Mwangaza ousted from office.

According to reports, 69 MCAs have thrown their weight behind the embattled governor’s impeachment over what they term as gross misconduct and abuse of office.

Aware of the plans to table her ouster motion by the disgruntled MCAs this week, Governor Mwangaza has rolled out public participation forums as she seeks to solidify her support and upstage ward representatives among the electorates if the motion goes through.

The motion for her removal was ready after sufficient grounds were established against the governor.

Early last month, Meru MCAs accused the governor of refusing to meet them to discuss the Ward Development Fund which has been in operation under the previous county administrations.

The misunderstanding escalated on October 19 when the governor was expected to address the assembly but MCAs walked out on her.
