Western Kenya to Replace Mt Kenya Vote in Ruto’s 2027 Equation

1 min read

President William Ruto is working round the clock to rally the entire Western Kenya counties of  Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and Trans Nzoia behind him before the 2027 elections, a strategy seeking to checkmate Mt Kenya if the region slips from his grip in the next elections.

On Thursday, the Head of State kicked off a two-day tour of the region in Kakamega where he met all the elected leaders at the Kakamega State Lodge to assure them the Kenya Kwanza government will honor all pre-election promises it made to the region during the campaign period.

Earlier in the week, President Ruto met at State House COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli and Kakamega Governor Fernandes Baraza in what is seen as a spirited attempt to win over Azimio leaders from Western Kenya to his side.

Sources within Kenya Kwanza say Mr. Ruto has been held hostage with the Mt Kenya voting block and he is determined to neutralise the region’s voting strength by having the 3 Million Western Kenya voters to his side.

Some Rift Valley leaders also describe Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua as a power-hungry political novice out of touch with the regime’s policy issues and will likely fall out with his boss before 2027, then Musalia Mudavadi picked as William Ruto’s running mate in the next election.

Mr. Mudavadi currently holds the powerful Chief Cabinet Secretary position.
