Wamuchomba Claims Impeachment Motion Against Gachagua Is a Distraction

1 min read

Turmoil brews within the Kenya Kwanza coalition as Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba speaks out against the reported plans to impeach Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

In a statement released on Tuesday, July 30, Wamuchomba contended that the impeachment motion is merely a tactic to divert public attention from pressing issues, particularly corruption.

“Someone thinks bringing a tribal card against the DP and leaders of Mt. Kenya will diffuse the rot in the Kenya Kwanza Government as highlighted by the protestors,” Wamuchomba stated. She insisted that the impeachment agenda is a decoy, aimed at overshadowing “massive corruption” and failures flagged by Kenyans.

While acknowledging that support for Gachagua in Parliament is limited, Wamuchomba expressed confidence that reasonable legislators would see through the alleged fictitious claims. “Any reasonable MP will defend voters against such punitive taxes. Even in the future, such bills will face resistance,” she asserted.

The remarks come in the wake of reports that a Cabinet Secretary nominee, along with 21 MPs from influential regions, has been orchestrating the impeachment motion. Gachagua has been accused of fostering division through his statements.

As tensions rise, the Deputy President and his team have yet to release an official response regarding the impeachment allegations. Wamuchomba’s comments highlight the ongoing political drama surrounding the Kenya Kwanza government and its leadership.
