Thika Town MP Patrick Wainaina who had joined Deputy President William Ruto last year in November at a rally in Kiambaa has decamped from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) for the Party on National Unity (PNU) headed by Laikipia Governor Nderitu Muriithi.
According to reports, the MP is believed to have retreated from UDA last December after DP Ruto’s unmet financial promises to his constituents during his recent tour of the county.
”The MP was forced to dip into his pocket to pay millions the DP had pledged to women and youth groups as part of his empowerment programme in Thika and Gatundu North where he hosted the DP,” a source confided to a local publication.

The MP’s new political home, PNU is headed by Governor Muriithi who currently chairs Raila Odinga’s presidential campaign board. A defection to PNU is a direct indication ‘Jungle’ as the Thika Town MP is popularly known will be among sitting Mt Kenya MPs rallying support for Odinga’s presidential bid.
The MP, who is yet to declare his reason for dumping Ruto has already rebranded all his campaign trucks and cars which had been painted in UDA colors. He joins Kirinyaga Woman Rep Wangui Ngirici who also decamped from the wheelbarrow party after claims of the outfit’s leadership being untrustworthy.
