A faction in State House wants Speaker Justin Muturi to deputise ODM leader Raila Odinga in the upcoming presidential election, saying such the ticket would reflect a true face of Kenya and shift from the Kikuyu-Kalenjin political domination as well as giving Mt Kenya East the region’s leadership mantle for the first time in country’s history.
According to a source who confided to this publication on condition of anonymity, those pushing for Muturi to deputise Odinga are also in the same group which elbowed through the elders to controversially coronate him as Mt Kenya’s political kingpin in May.
”The group could be more organised that Kenyans think. They have two powerful individuals from the president’s family behind the move,” the source said.
In September, Muturi met Raila Odinga’s allies Kivutha Kibwana (Makueni Governor) and former UNCTAD Secretary-General and 2022 presidential aspirant Mukhisa Kituyi in Makueni where the three leaders discussed 2022, as well as the new political alliance being woven by President Uhuru Kenyatta and the ODM supremo.
Earlier, in July, our mole believed Speaker of the National Assembly was the head of the state’s favorite, on who should be the next Deputy President of Kenya.
A number of factors including current political turmoil in the GEMA community assert the Head of State’s confidence in the Mbeere native.
The domination of Mt Kenya West, mainly comprising the Kikuyu community and a feeling of taking over Mt Kenya leadership mantle after President Uhuru ( from Kiambu in the West), by their brothers and sisters from the East is at play.
In the arithmetic, the pushers of the Raila-Muturi ticket believe the speaker will take to his bosom the Embu, Meru, Mbeere votes, and a fraction from Mt Kenya West to thrust Odinga to victory in 2022.
With this latest development, JB Muturi now joins the list of notable Mt Kenya leaders jostling for the deputy president’s slot under Raila. Others are Peter Kenneth, Peter Munya, Lee Kinyanjui, and Nderitu Muriithi.
