Kenya National Chamber of Commerce (KNCC) President Richard Ngatia and his Deputy, Erick Ruto are facing off for the body’s Presidency following the end of his first term.

Vice President Erick Ruto launched a bid to unseat his boss last week on Thursday during a strategy meeting with county and regional chairpersons from Rift Valley, Nyanza, and Western in Eldoret. A meeting bankrolled by a prominent UDA MP.

On the other hand, Richard Ngatia met delegates from the six coastal counties at the Red Cross Hall in Malindi town, where he was endorsed by regional delegates. He will be deputized by Abduwali Shariff from Mombasa County while Eric Ruto has picked Mustafa Ramadhan as his deputy.

According to sources within KNCC, Mt Kenya, and Rift Valley politicians in the Kenya Kwanza Administration have thrown their weight behind the two candidates, with some saying State House wants Richard Ngatia out.

Ngatia was named the Chamber President in 2019 after his opponents pulled out a month before the polls, taking over from Kiprono Kittony. The upcoming elections will be held on June 8th, 2023.
