On 21st November 2020, William Ruto secretly flew out of the country to Dubai where he met Dubai business tycoons to finance his 2022 presidential campaigns.
The meeting which took place the following day on November 22nd was attended by the CEO of Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank (ADIB), Mr. Sandeep Chouhan, and Lawyer Abdil Khawaja, Ruto’s personal lawyer and business associate in real estate development.
Almost three years later, Mr. Abdil Khawaja gets appointed to the Safaricom Board as the giant telcos Chairperson.
Mr. Khawaja is a former KCB Bank Non-Executive Director. He is also a managing partner at Denton Hamilton Harrison and Matthews, and a leading name in the estate, environmental, and planning industry, and commercial litigation and dispute resolution circles.
On January 6th, John Ngumi resigned as Safaricom Chairperson barely 6 months after his appointment by President Uhuru in July last year.
