Speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi on Thursday accused new Kiambaa MP John Njuguna Wanjiku for being an absentee parliamentarian, describing him as neglecting his duties and being a no-show when his presence was needed for important Parliament business.
Speaker Muturi was forced to defer the motion for approval of his list of nominees for the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF) and asked senior MPs to lecture the new UDA MP on what his duties should be.

“Let the young man understand parliament is supposed to be. I will not put the question unless until the member is here so that he understands. You know he just came to parliament the other day. Now, these bad manners of coming in and going away, he thinks this is going to be the streets,” the speaker said upon finding out the lawmaker had failed to attend sessions when the assembly was supposed to approve his nominees to the Kiambaa National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF) committee.

“The young man should be told. You know this is the problem, and I have always told members these are some of the people that need to be taught things. Let him come to the house and participate. He should be here to participate in this. So if he decides to go and participate in the village, let him remain in the village. So that motion is deferred,” added the disappointed house Speaker.
The youthful UDA legislator who floored Jubilee Party in a hotly contested by-election in July this year has been accused of spending too much time on DP Ruto’s campaign trail and his (Ruto) residence in Karen campaigning instead of serving the residents of Kiambaa.
