Deputy President William Ruto has finally revealed what he whispered to President Uhuru Kenyatta on October 26th last year, at the Bomas of Kenya when the Head of State claimed he (Ruto) had taken an opposite direction in the race to succeed him (Uhuru) in 2022.

Uhuru while addressing Kenyans during the unveiling of the BBI taskforce report likened the DP’s political behavior in government and in Jubilee to a relay runner who sprints in the opposite direction of the race track.

“My brother William has changed direction and is speeding on the opposite direction. Just be patient, you will reach your destination. Let’s engage in endeavours that will develop our country and unite pour people,” Uhuru said at the podium in October, prompting the DP, spring from his seat and whisper into his ears, which made both burst out in laughter.

Speaking to KTN News’s Sophia Wanuna last night, Dr. Ruto revealed what he whispered to President Uhuru at the Bomas of Kenya that day, saying they were worried Uhuru was almost handing over power to a member of an opposite team (Raila Odinga of ODM).

”At the Bomas of Kenya, the president was speaking in jest. When he said that, I was telling him he was almost handing over the baton to a member of a different team. You can only hand over a baton to a member of your team in a relay. I told him the rest of us were worried. That is why he was laughing,” Ruto told the journalist last night.

The DP also believes President Uhuru Kenyatta will not hand over power to one of the former NASA principals.

Responding to queries on his tweet on the alleged proclamation by Uhuru that he would back a Nasa principal in next year’s general election, Ruto accused the media of spinning the Head of State’s words.

”Newspapers have the tendency of saying all manner of things – insinuations, sometimes half-truths. I don’t think either myself or the president will forget that there were millions of Kenyans who believed in us and who voted for us,” he said.
