Panic in UDA as Rival ODM Factions Plan Unity Talks

Reports have emerged of a planned meeting between the two rival ODM factions, Linda Ground and Linda Mwananchi, in a bid to reconcile and ensure the party heads into 2027 united.

The talks are said to focus on whether ODM will contest for the presidency as a party, or as part of a broader coalition.

The planned meeting has reportedly unsettled the ruling UDA party, prompting urgent internal consultations on possible scenarios should ODM reconcile and withdraw from their current political union.

Sources within the ruling party indicate growing concern that a united ODM could dramatically alter the political landscape for 2027, especially if the party bolts out of the broadbased government.

On Thursday the ODM Central Management Committee (CMC) issued a public statement demanding respect from UDA and reaffirming ODM’s independence.

There has been escalating tension between the two sides, with ODM leaders accusing UDA of undermining their partnership.

On Wednesday, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki met with Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru to discuss strategies for consolidating the Mt Kenya vote behind President William Ruto.

The meeting appears to be UDA’s determination to maintain its political stronghold in the region, even as cracks emerge in its alliance with ODM.

President Ruto has reportedly rejected ODM’s demand for the Deputy President’s position in the next election, insisting that Kindiki will remain his running mate.

Kindiki is expected to intensify his political activities across Mt Kenya in the coming weeks. He hosted Kikuyu Council Elders on Thursday.

During a rally in Kisii yesterday, a conciliatory Ruto- urged ODM and UDA to continue working together despite growing speculation of an imminent split.

The remarks followed public warnings from Minority Whip Junet Mohamed and ODM Chairperson Gladys Wanga, who hinted at a possible “divorce” with UDA if the current disagreements persist.

ODM has announced a series of youth conventions set to begin in Nairobi and Mombasa. The events aim to revitalise ODM’s grassroots structures and prepare members for the next phase of political engagement.
