Kiambu County, Gatundu South residents have vowed to lead a resistance against the Ministry of Education’s plans to downgrade the Mama Ngina University to a Technical and Vocational Education and Training Center (TVET).
According to reports, villagers of Mutomo are fingering their leaders, among them MP Gabriel Kagombe for being part of the scheme to downgrade the institution.
The locals who were set to benefit from the new institution by putting up rental houses, hostels, and small businesses that would serve students and the university staff say MP Kagombe orchestrated the plan in order to advance UDA’s political interests in the constituency.
”We are informed our MP who is here with us met Education CS Ezekiel Machogu and discussed the plan to make the university a TVET. We want to tell him that we as the Mutomo residents oppose such kind of move,” John Long, one of the villagers says.
They reveal MP Kagombe has initiated the process of downgrading the Institution to a TVET yet Gatundu South constituency already has three TVETs and it would make no sense to convert Mama Ngina University to a fourth one.
The angry villagers say the scheme was plotted in the highest office in government to devalue and spite former President Uhuru Kenyatta under whose tenure Mama Ngina University was established.
