Njuri Ncheke elders dismiss Justin Muturi’s coronation as Mt Kenya spokesperson

The Njuri Ncheke Supreme Council of elders has distanced itself from the weekend coronation of Speaker Justin Muturi as the Mt Kenya Spokesperson. Josephat Murangiri, the body’s Secretary-General said the National Assembly was only visiting Meru. He was not coronated.

“I don’t want to engage in witch hunt and rumours. Some don’t even understand what really happened. There was no coronation done to Muturi. He was brought by 200 Mbeere elders and when a son is presented to the elders, there is a way we receive them. The same way if our son has interests similar to Muturi’s,” Murangiri explained on Monday.

The alleged weekend coronation is seen as a move to package Speaker Muturi as a presidential candidate. Other leaders from Mt Kenya eyeing to succeed Uhuru as the region’s kingpin are Peter Kenneth, William Kabogo, Anne Waiguru and Mwangi Kiunjuri.
