Kirinyaga Woman Rep Purity Wangui Ngirici has told Governor Anne Waiguru to stop blaming her current woes with the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on her defection to the United Democratic Alliance, and that they had built UDA from scratch for the embattled governor to join the last minute.
”When anti-graft agencies strike, don’t blame it on joining UDA. We have built the party from scratch,” the Woman Rep said.
On Thursday morning, Governor Waiguru hit out at the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) currently investigating graft allegations inside Kirinyaga county assembly, saying the body was being used by the government to scare off anyone contemplating a defection to DP William Ruto’s camp.
”It’s barely 48 hours after we decamped to UDA and now this? As a believer in the rule of law, this is really unfortunate. Its intention is to dissuade those contemplating the same and an attempt at engineering succession politics. It wont work. Kenyans are not stupid,” the Kirinyaga county chief wrote.
According to reports, EACC detectives have concluded investigations into the planned payment of millions of shillings for a dubious land survey tender by the Kirinyaga County government and payment of questionable allowances to the governor and county officials.
On the EACC radar are Governor Waiguru, Kirinyaga county Chief Finance Officer Mugo Ndathi, Kirinyaga County Assembly Speaker Anthony Gathumbi, Leader of Majority James Murango, and chairman of the Budget Committee at the county assembly David Mathenge, all of who accompanied the county chief to Ruto’s Karen residence on Tuesday.
