UDA claims CS Matiang’i, Joe Mucheru planning to rig elections for Raila

Deputy President William Ruto’s allies are now accusing Cabinet Secretaries Dr. Fred Matiagi (Interior) and Joe Mucheru (ICT) of secretly working to rig elections in favor of ODM leader Raila Odinga in the August 2022 elections.

The leaders, including MPs Alice Wahome (Kandara), Ndindi Nyoro (Kiharu), Rigathi Gachagua (Mathira) among others are now demanding the president move the two CSs to other portfolios, not responsible for handling the elections, considering their open bias towards the former prime minister.

“And if the president for whatever reason requires these two ministers to be in his government then he can move them to other dockets that have nothing to do with the elections. The people of Kenya cannot be comfortable and cannot accept an election that is being managed by people who are clearly partisan,” Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua said, remarks which were backed by Ndindi Nyoro.

“We cannot allow the people who are ministers in such critical ministries at such a time like this to be partisan,” said Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro.

According to Alice Wahome of Kandara, Matiangi and Joe Mucheru’s time in the two dockets had come to an end and President Uhuru Kenyatta must move with speed in replacing the two.

”Mucheru and Matiang’i’s time has come to an end. It should never happen that people who are supposed to serve the public take sides. We cannot trust them, we don’t believe in them because they have already branded themselves as ODM,” said the MP.

Speaking last week on Friday at an event in Nyamira, Defense CS Eugene Wamalwa defended his colleagues in cabinet supporting the ODM leader’s presidential bid, saying their duty was to support President Uhuru Kenyatta in every decision he makes.

”As CSs we are the President’s workers. We are appointed to assist the President. if you have been appointed to assist the President, can you resist the President? If he says handshake between him and Raila will bring peace in the country then as CS we will join him,” CS Wamalwa said last week.
