Several elected leaders from the Mt Kenya region, including Governors, Senators, and MPs are a part of Raila Odinga’s 2022 campaign team and will be unveiled soon. This revelation is coming hours after Ndaragua MP Jeremiah Kioni disclosed the MPs have decided to comb every length and breadth of the populous region in hunting for 2022 presidential votes for the ODM leader.
”That is propaganda that is being used by the people vying against him. We have used it before because we had a candidate vying against him. Unfortunately, the people who are using it now do not come from Mt Kenya. We have decided that Raila is our best bet to take over from the President and we know what to do. Just watch the space,” he said.
The squad expected to champion for the mountain region’s interests inside the former prime minister’s camp include Governors Kiraitu Murungi (Meru), James Nyoro (Kiambu) and Ndiritu Muriithi (Laikipia), MPs Amos Kimunya (Kipipiri), Maoka Maore (Igembe North), Kanini Kega (Kieni), Jeremiah Kioni (Ndaragwa), Peter Mwathi (Limuru), Maina Kamanda (nominated), Ruth Mwaniki (Kigumo), Mary Wamaua (Maragua) and Joseph Nduati (Gatanga).
Even though they have not publicly endorsed Mr. Odinga yet other MPs touted to be headed in the ODM leader’s camp are Ngunjiri Wambugu (Nyeri Town) Sabina Chege (Murang’a MP), Kimani Wamatangi (Kiambu senator), Jude Njomo (Kiambu MP), Wanjiku Kibe (Gatundu North), Muturi Kigano (Kangema), Ephraim Maina (Nyeri senator) and Njeru Ndwiga (Embu senator).
According to multiple sources, allies of Raila are also talking to leaders of fringe parties from Mt Kenya, among them Civic Renewal Party (CVP), The Service Party (TSP), Narck-Kenya, and Chama Cha Kazi (CCK) with an intention of bringing everyone on board as well as reaching out to bitter political rivals in the region, to bury the hatchet in line with the Azimio La Umoja rallying call.
