Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria says Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairman Wafula Chebukati is the biggest risk to a peaceful country as we head into the elections. The Chama Cha Kazi (CCK) leader has accused Chebukati of refusing to be accountable to stakeholders in the coming polls as well those seeking transparency.
“I support Chebukati in refusing to report to government agencies, but he has refused to be accountable even to political parties who are the stakeholders in elections. He is the biggest risk to a peaceful Kenya,” Kuria said in a social media post on Sunday.

On November 22nd, the electoral body chair wrote a letter to Interior PS Karanja Kibicho telling him IEBC had made the decision to withdraw from the National Multi-Sectoral Consultative Forum on Election Preparedness and Technical Working Committee after consultations, saying the panel would interfere with its independence.
“Whereas we recognise that the success of the electoral process is largely determined by stakeholder engagement at all levels, we must respectfully point out that a number of the Terms of Reference of the NMSCF and the TWC has the net effect of violating the Constitution, by purporting to direct the commission on how to discharge its mandate contrary to Article 88 of the Constitution,” the letter stated.

The letter over National Multi-Sectoral Consultative Forum on Election Preparedness and Technical Working Committee was also copied to Attorney General Kihara Kariuki, Chief Justice Martha Koome, Treasury CS Ukur Yatani, ICT CS Joe Mucheru, NIS director-general Philip Kameru, IG Hillary Mutyambai, DPP Noordin Haji among others.
