The Oranga Democratic Movement (ODM) has settled on Mohammed Mdigo Mwamkale as its candidate for the Rabai MP seat following the untimely demise of area MP William Kamoti in a road crash on Sunday after being cleared by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to defend his seat on an Orange Democratic Movement party ticket in the August 9 polls.

Mohammed Mdigo, a former Mariakani town council chairperson is also the youngest brother to the late MP Kamoti.

”We are waiting for the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to clear him for us to announce that he is the ODM candidate,” Kilifi ODM Chairperson Teddy Mwambire said on Monday.

Raila yesterday described Kamoti as a very intelligent legislator whose counsel helped ODM to develop a strong footing in Kilifi County.

“He was a very intelligent man. He was like my younger brother,” Raila mourned him.

On Monday, leaders from the Coast region had called on the ODM to replace the late Rabai MP William Kamoti with one of his kin following his death.
