Kindiki snubs DP Ruto’s Karen meeting, to make a statement on Kenya Kwanza running mate pick

1 min read

Tharaka Nithi Senator Kithure Kindiki skipped the Kenya Kwanza press conference held at the Deputy President William Ruto’s Karen residence in Nairobi this afternoon where the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) flagbearer was announcing his running mate.

Earlier on, William Ruto had settled on the Tharaka Nithi Senator as the best bet for the job. He had requested Professor Kindiki not to defend the senatorial seat he currently holds and to drop his Tharaka Nithi gubernatorial ambitions in anticipation of the running mate’s post.

There are reports Prof Kithure yesterday evening asked for time to digest the DP’s last-minute decision to pick the Mathira MP and will make a statement on what he thinks of the same.

Rigathi Gachagua on the other hand had agreed to defend his Mathira MP seat and still holds the UDA MP nominations certificate.

MPs Ndindi Nyoro (Kiharu), Alice Wahome (Kandara), National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi, Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru were also among the candidates considered for the position.
