The ongoing calls to impeach Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua are misdirected. Kenyans truly need a complete overhaul, starting with President William Ruto and his Deputy stepping down from office.
The Kenya Kwanza government, which came to power with grand promises, has failed to deliver on its pledges, instead overseeing widespread corruption and the selling off of critical national assets such as airports, power generation facilities, and even the health system to foreign interests like Adani.
This government is no longer serving the people’s interests, and its leadership must leave. The entire administration should resign, not just the Deputy President. Calls for Gachagua’s impeachment alone are an attempt to sidestep the real issue: the collective failure of the Kenya Kwanza administration.
Furthermore, when Gen Z demos breached Parliament and occupied the chambers, they symbolically reclaimed authority on behalf of the Kenyan people. That moment was a turning point, stripping Parliament of its legitimacy to carry out any legislative work.
The breach of Parliament signaled that the legislative branch has lost its mandate, and by extension, any efforts by Parliament to initiate impeachment proceedings are meaningless and irrelevant.
The judiciary has already issued an advisory for the dissolution of Parliament, and the best course of action now is for President Ruto to implement this advisory immediately. After dissolving Parliament, both he and Deputy President Gachagua should resign, allowing Chief Justice Martha Koome to oversee the transition.
The people of Kenya deserve a fresh start. It is clear that the Kenya Kwanza government has lost the moral authority to lead. It’s time for the entire administration to step down and allow the nation to heal from the failures and betrayals it has suffered under their watch.
