Speaker of the National Assembly Justin Bundi Muturi has disclosed he will be running for president using the Democratic Party (DP) ticket next year, joining the crowded field of leaders who have publicly declared their interest to succeed President Uhuru.

Making the announcement in Nyeri on Tuesday, the Speaker of the National Assembly accepted his nomination by the party’s delegates to be their flagbearer following a decision by the outfit’s top organ NEC.

”We have spoken with DP and agreed that I vie for the presidency in 2022,” Speaker Muturi said for the first time since September 2020, when DP approached him to be their flagbearer.

Speaking in Siaya county last weekend, Muturi said he was throwing his hat on the ring to provide an alternative leadership outside the available Raila and Ruto options.

”When you are going for a competition, you don’t go there to lose. Let us meet at the ballot,” Muturi said while presiding over a fundraiser at Sega Polytechnic in Ugenya, Siaya County at the invitation of Ugenya MP David Ochieng.
