Other than joining Mr. Odinga’s camp on Saturday, Mutahi Kahiga has been one of the main organizers of the Azimio la Umoja Nyeri tour. Other main partners who have ensured the event is a success are the Party of National Unity (PNU) bigwigs from the region, the Kenyattas blessings, and Mt Kenya Foundation’s muscle.

Apart from Kahiga, other governors from Mt Kenya West supporting Raila for the top seat are mong governors are Laikipia’s Ndiritu Muriithi, James Nyoro (Kiambu), Francis Kimemia (Nyandarua), and Nakuru’s Lee Kinyanjui.

Kikuyu and Luo elders are currently in Nyeri for a one-of-a-kind event, not witnessed in recent years.

Over close to 1,500 elders from the two communities are expected to lead a reconciliation ceremony between the Luos and Kikuyu, which will culminate into endorsing Raila Odinga to take over from President Uhuru Kenyatta next year.

ODM Nyeri County chairman Wachira Maina confirmed Raila would be accompanied by a delegation of elders from the Luo Council who would be hosted by their counterparts from Kikuyu Council, while also revealing the event will also be the clearest indication Mt Kenya was throwing its weight fully behind the former prime minister.

”The first meeting will involve 600 elders drawn from two formations – Kikuyu Council of Elders and the Kiama Kiama and another 600 elders from the Luo Council of Elders. These are not campaigns, as our leader Raila has not confirmed his bid for the presidency but we hope as soon as he confirms we shall support him as we are safe in his hands, this country is safe,” Wachira said yesterday.
