Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua says the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) had its own arrangements of having William Ruto’s running mate from the vote-rich Mt Kenya region before they were joined by ‘other people’, who are now demanding the same position in the Kenya Kwanza Alliance.

Speaking on Sunday night at a local TV show, Gachagua said things cannot change to the disadvantage of the Mt Kenya region that had solidly rallied behind UDA and DP Ruto for the last four years.

”Ruto’s running mate must come from the mountain. Before we were joined by the other people, we had our own arrangements that we had discussed and my position has been, that whatever had been agreed upon earlier cannot change drastically to the disadvantage of the Mount Kenya region.

“We demand the running position for central Kenya, I do so on behalf of the people from the mountain. I do not speak for ANC or Ford Kenya. Speak for the people of the mountain,” Gachagua said.

However, the legislator who is stauch supporter of the DP said despite his feelings, the decision on who to name as the most suitable running mate for the alliance was the flagbearer’s decision.

”He further said the naming of the deputy president for Kenya Kwanza is a preserve of Ruto. The decision of who will be running mate for William Ruto will be decided by William Ruto,” he added.

Musalia Mudavadi, Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro, Speaker JB Muturi, Prof Kithure Kindiki are among Mt Kenya leaders in the DP’s camp being considered for the position.
