Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has stated that the Kenya Kwanza administration will increase the salary for police officers by 40 percent across the country.

He spoke to an audience in Kirinyaga County and stressed on the need for police to give back to the community by offering outstanding services. Gachagua said, “We have decided to increase the salaries of police by 40%, but I ask them to give back through doing the right thing.”

In a bold move, Gachagua also issued a stern warning to officers found colluding with wrongdoers, particularly illicit brewers, indicating a shift from previous disciplinary measures within the police force.

He emphasized that those involved in illegal activities would face prosecution and potential dismissal. “Illicit brews are thriving because the officers are busy taking bribes,” he declared, highlighting the urgency of addressing this issue.

The Deputy President’s determination to fight against the drug scourge was seen through his speeches, where he promised to reinforce security in Kirinyaga in order to end illicit brews. “Traders who exploit the masses through use of illicit alcohol must know that their time is running out,” Gachagua affirmed, a message which must have come as a relief to those involved in the illicit trade.
