From Limuru III to Bukhungu III When Will We Have Kenya I?

13 mins read

Tribalism has defined Kenyan politics since independence and for more than 60 years as a free country we have been enslaved by tribalism from State House to parliament and everywhere else in governance. Right now that disease is getting to a new level as so-called national leaders turn back to their tribes to seek power in the country.

Martha Karua from Azimio had their Limuru III meeting, which is fine, but it tells the whole country that there is a lot of discomfort in the Mt. Kenya region.

DP Rigathi Gachagua has been telling the whole country that the Kikuyus are big shareholders in the Ruto government and he is just going to sit with Ruto and take the presidency in 2032 after Ruto serves 10 years in that office.

The real question is will Ruto get re-elected in 2027 after literally putting the country to ruins in five years of incompetency and massive corruption with crazy taxes to Kenyans from his government?

The Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary General Francis Atwoli now says the upcoming meeting of leaders drawn from the Western Kenya region at the Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega County will rattle the country’s political landscape.

The meeting, a third of its kind, hence aptly named ‘Bukhungu III,’ is primarily convened in a bid to maintain Luhya unity and make grand political decisions by consensus.

According to Atwoli, the convener, the Luhya community is united under a common voice, hence the declarations that will be made at the conference will be significant in shaping the direction of the country’s politics.

“Luhyas are not divided and have never been divided. The narrative about Luhya unity is farfetched since what we witness is only a few dissenting voices which is normal in a community of over 10 million people, but the truth of the matter is that we are more united and together than ever,” said Atwoli.

“I always tell my people that I will one day witness the crowning of a Luhya President and that is why when we will have the Bukhungu III, we will shake the politics of Kenya and that is the reason why as leaders we are working on more unity and cohesiveness with the Mulembe people.”

Atwoli was speaking on Saturday when he accompanied Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi to the funeral service of the late Mama Rose Nabalayo Mudavadi in Shiveye, Kakamega County.

Other leaders present included former Attorney General Amos Wako, Busia Governor Paul Otuoma, Vihiga Deputy Governor Wilberforce Kitiezo, Vihiga Women Representative Beatrice Adagala, MPs Omboko Milemba and Fred Ikana and former MP Alfred Agoi,

According to a statement sent to newsrooms by the Prime CS’ press team, the leaders jointly resolved “to support Musalia Mudavadi’s leadership as the Western Kenya kingpin saying he means well for the Mulembe people and Kenya at large.”

The Bukhungu III announcement comes just a day after the highly controversial Limuru III meeting held on Friday by a section of leaders from the Mt. Kenya region to chart a path forward for the community.

The leaders announced the formation of the HAKI coalition which they said will push for the region’s interests and unity under the guidance of former President Uhuru Kenyatta, whom they insisted remains their spokesperson.

The meeting has however come under sharp criticism, including from allies of President William Ruto who termed it as a divisive way of tryingto push an agenda and undermine the government of the day.

The Bukhungu meeting was last held in December 2021, during which a declaration was made to support the presidential candidature of opposition leader Raila Odinga at the 2022 polls.

Here is MUTAHI NGUNYI’s wise advice to GACHAGUA who is planning to bury the hatchet with UHURU

“Dear Riggy G, A handshake with Uhuru Kenyatta is a set-up.

“He is the enemy of Ruto. If you embrace him, Ruto becomes your enemy.

“You defeated Uhuru in broad daylight. Soldier on.

“You “do not cross a river by constantly going back to the banks to rest.” Cross it.

“Kama mbaya, mbaya! ,” Ngunyi told Gachagua.

In the meantime, one of the most tribalist politicians in Kenya Kimani Ichungwah was mad about the Limuru III meeting claiming that they wanted to unite the country and not just the Kikuyus. He is fooling nobody except himself.

And then of course there is the Rigathi Gachagua question when he was nowhere to be seen with Museveni at State House. Everybody can see that the Ruto and Kikuyu alliance is in trouble and Mudavadi is trying to knock on the door from behind.

Gachagua makes public appearance amid claims of cracks within Kenya Kwanza

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Sunday made his first public appearance amid rumours of a split within the ruling Kenya Kwanza coalition.

Gachagua attended a church service at Endarasha Catholic Church in Kieni constituency, Nyeri county.

His appearance comes after days of speculation, where he has been conspicuously missing from key state functions, with speculation rife that he has fallen out with President William Ruto.

Nyeri Governor Edward Mutahi Kahiga has hinted at a possible rift within the ruling Kenya Kwanza alliance.

Kahiga on Sunday said the people of the Mount Kenya region will not allow Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to be mistreated.

Speaking in Kieni during a church event attended by Gachagua, the governor cited how President William Ruto was allegedly mistreated when deputised former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Kahiga said at the time, the people of Mt. Kenya stood with Ruto after witnessing his tribulations as deputy president.

“I want to say here in front of everyone, we will not allow our son (Gachagua) to go through what Ruto went through in the hands of Uhuru Kenyatta. We will not allow our son to be mistreated. We will not,” Mutahi said amid cheers from the congregation.

He added that Gachagua was not appointed to his current position, rather he was elected like any other leader and deserves to be respected.

“Disrespect to Gachagua is disrespect to the mountain, and vice versa. Those trying to bring bad blood between the president and his deputy, we are warning you,” a fiery Mutahi added.

The governor is a confidant of DP Gachagua.   Appearing to address Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei who had made remarks in the same meeting some minutes earlier, Mutahi said there is no need for lies, before saying the DP should be respected.

Cherargei had said that everything was okay amid rumours of a fallout within the coalition.  Mutahi’s sentiments come amidst a rumoured fallout between Gachagua and Ruto, especially after the DP went silent and missed key state functions.

Gachagua on Sunday made his first public appearance in over a week when he attended the church service in Endarasha, Nyeri County.

And William Ruto now in the USA to get Sh. 13 billion from Joe Biden so he can send 1,000 Kenyan police and GSU to Haiti.

My Mission Is Not To Be Re-Elected – President Ruto
My mission is not to be re-elected - President Ruto

President William Ruto has stated that his eyes are not set on re-election in the 2027 General Elections, but instead focused on injecting a permanent transformation in Kenya.

Speaking during a church service in Sotik, Bomet County on Sunday, Ruto noted that his interests are mainly in remodelling the approach service delivery has taken in the past decades for the nation’s posterity.

The Head of State further went on to chastise leaders whose main focus is always securing their positions in future elections at the expense of crippling development in their regions.

“I am not planning on being re-elected I am planning on how we will transform Kenya. That is my mission. Being elected again is by God’s plan and the will of Kenyans. My work is not planning on how I will be re-elected my work is changing Kenya,” he said.

“We cannot continue to focus on the next election. We must begin to focus on the next generation.”

While asserting that he harbors a deliberate plan to realise his ambitious vision for Kenya, Ruto said that he is seeking to offset Kenya’s monstrous debt burden while also fostering a conducive environment for a better economy.

“As I speak about 8 countries in Africa have been plunged into insolvency and I want to tell you that I will not be a president to take you to such a place,” noted Ruto.

He even claimed that Kenya will be receiving lumpsum monetary support from “friends and investors” who he says have warmed up to the promising economic climate in the country.

This comes a few days after Kenya received Ksh.103 billion ($682 million) from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) boosting the current lending programme by $938 million.

Kenya is grappling with acute liquidity challenges caused by uncertainty over its ability to access funding from financial markets before a Ksh.303 billion ($2B) Eurobond matures in June 2024.

So do we still have a country called Kenya. Yes, we do and that is what Azimio has to focus on as we approach the 2024 Budget in a few weeks where William Ruto is taxing Kenyans at levels never seen before.
