The Democratic Republic of Congo’s (DRC) armed forces successfully thwarted an attempted coup d’etat in Kinshasa, involving both Congolese and foreign fighters, including American mercenaries.
The incident targeted President Felix Tshisekedi and resulted in a shootout and three fatalities. The army has arrested several suspects, including foreign fighters, and claims to have suppressed the coup attempt.
American mercenaries were involved.
According to reports, persons supporting the “New Zaire” movement were behind in the coup attempt. Its leader is Christian Malanga, who formed a government in exile abroad. Malanga lived in the United States and it is alleged he has been killed.
