The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has dropped the charges against former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i and his lawyer Danstan Omari over allegations of conspiracy and publication of false information.

In a press statement on Monday, Lilian Obuong, the Acting DPP noted that the evidence provided by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) was not sufficient to sustain the charges against the two.

The DCI had accused Matiang’i and Omari of jointly conspiring to publish in the media that Matiang’i’s home was invaded by a garrison or battalion of unidentified people from the security apparatus on 8th and 9th February 2023.

The DCI had recommended that Matiang’i and Omari be charged with conspiracy to commit a felony contrary to section 393 of the Penal Code and publication of false information contrary to section 23 of the Computer and Misuse and Cybercrime Act No. 5 of 2018.
