Hon. Babu Owino is right to say Kalonzo Musyoka stood with us in three elections and we need not betray him. But that’s half the story.
The other half is this: even if Luos were to embrace Kalonzo today, he will be abandoned by his new Mt. Kenya friends.
It is also fair to ask that Kalonzo first resolves the question of the Kenya he wants. It cannot be a Kenya where everything goes.
In embracing Gachagua, Kalonzo is embracing Gachagua’s toxic tribalism laced in shareholder politics. Kalonzo is saying he will rule per Gachagua’s shareholder demands.
Put simply, Kalonzo has accepted that once they form government, Kenyans who would not have voted for their ticket will be out of government, to be treated with the same level of arrogance and crude disdain that Rigathi Gachagua conducted himself with before we removed him from power.
The Luo must decide which Kenya they want to help build. Is it the Kenya of tribal supremacy as the organizing principle or a Kenya where all tribes — amd especially the Luo themselves — are wanted in the dining room.
If Gachagua ran away from the government because of the Luo entry, what makes us now want to join him in the hole he dug for himself?
And even if we are stupid enough to do that, what makes us think he will stay in that room?
Kalonzo is only now being embraced by Rigathi-owned Mt. Kenya groupies because of the manifest Luo absence around him.
The moment Luos enter the room, he will bolt out noisily, followed by his tribal murima gang.
I will repeat it here that the Luo must do their politics away from GEMA.
GEMA already made it a way of life to do their politics away from Luos, why are we the ones begging to join their formation?
Ever since Gachagua was impeached, has he spoken to the Luo Nation? Has he addressed the grievances the Luo have against him, particularly the revelation that he actively opposed any intervention to the Luo, including on humanitarian grounds?
How can a fellow who declined to extend help to you when you faced a catastrophe now embrace you?
Babu Owino must tell us which formula to use to support Kalonzo when Kalonzo is ploting with Gachagua.
In future, when a sensible, broad-minded GEMA leader emerges, one with no demonstrated hostility towards the Luo, then maybe we should join such.
For now, the group that’s emerging from Mt. Kenya with Gachagua as their leader is a dangerous group with very toxic tribal mentality.
It is a group we embrace at our own peril.
