If it ever comes a time to choose between supporting Babu Owino and supporting the broader economic interests of the Luo community and its power arithmetic; we will not just support Luo interests, we will ensure those interests prevail, and it will not matter what becomes of Babu Owino’s political career.
If the choice is between the Gor Mahia Ring Road in Homa Bay and Babu Owino, of course, for me, obviously, the GMRR will take very high precedence.
Babu Owino must seek a common ground between his political ambitions and the broader Luo community aspirations without which he risks suffering the same fate Kidero suffered.
Beginning 2015, we kept warning Kidero not to abandon the Luo community in Nairobi.
But back then Kidero had surrounded himself with the Wainainas, the Kiamas and the Kiprops of this world.
Kidero’s City Hall was the most hostile to Luos, at a time when his position as Governor after 2013 polls was the only major seat held by a Luo in Nairobi.
The Kikuyus who were lying to him as his would be alternative voting bloc if he abandoned ODM, did so upto the end of 2016, then started digging him in.
To bury him, Uhuru who had assured him of support went to Ngara market one day and attacked him there; saying he was incompetent and running a “filthy city” with garbage everywhere.
Uhuru’s party, which Kidero in 2015 was deluding himself as his “Plan B” party, would end up picking Sonko, another useful idiot who GEMA removed just two years later — to smoothen the looting through NMS.
For Kidero, by late 2016, he had lost the Luo community in Nairobi. Even when he purchased the ODM ticket a year later in 2017, it came to nothing. He entered 2017 with neither an assured LUO/ODM solid bloc nor the imaginations he had been fed about Kikuyus voting for him. Today he moonlights as UDA ticketholder, operating from periphery. This is somebody who believed he was heir-presumptive, post Raila.
Why this Kidero background is relevant now is because Babu has adopted the same posture like Kidero. Attacking Luos as a way to suck up to Kikuyu city votes, which votes might not come his way because the Kikuyu will field a candidate in Nairobi, is most pathetic.
Dr. Raymond Omollo is not Babu’s problem. Babu’s problems are his IN-LAWS who are fielding a FUNCTIONAL ILLITERATE called GAKUYA to run for Governor of Nairobi, against him.
Babu’s other problem is Uhuru Kenyatta, lying to him as he lied to Tuju, to Kidero, and to Raila. Uhuru’s brief to Babu is to fight the Luos seen to prefer a Luo-Kalenjin alliance to the futility that is Luo-Kikuyu alliances.
