Omingo Magara quits UDA, joins Matiangi party

1 min read

Former South Mugirango MP Omingo Magara has defected from DP Ruto’s United Democratic Party to a local Gusii party associated with Interior CS Dr. Fred Matiangi.

According to multiple sources, Magara will be the United Progressives Alliance candidate for the Kisii gubernatorial race, to take on ODM and others.

UPA is anchored on the ideology of participatory economic progressivism, where participation of the people, social cohesion, and co-operation are the cornerstones of a more stable and just economic development. The party signed a cooperation agreement with the ruling Jubilee last week.

Magara ditched UDA days after UDA Youth Affairs Secretary Anthony Kibagendi also exited the Ruto-led party. There has been a simmering confusion and fallout in the UDA group from Gusii, with WhatsApp chats of leaders insulting each other getting leaked out.

Until his defection this morning, Magara was the National Treasurer of the UDA party.
