Matiang’i Leads Presidential Race in Central Kenya as Ruto Dominates Nationally

Jubilee Deputy Party Leader Fred Matiang’i has emerged as the most preferred presidential candidate in Central Kenya, according to the latest Infotrak Research and Consulting survey released on Monday.

The poll places Matiang’i at 19 per cent in the region, six percentage points ahead of Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, who garnered 13 per cent support.

President William Ruto and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua are tied at 12 per cent each, while Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna received 11 per cent in the Mt Kenya region.

Matiang’i’s Central Kenya rating represents a significant seven percentage points higher than his national presidential preference rating of 12 per cent, suggesting strong regional appeal in the vote-rich area.

However, the survey reveals that 26 per cent of respondents in Central Kenya remain undecided, the largest bloc of uncommitted voters in any region, indicating the race remains wide open.

Despite Matiang’i’s regional lead, President Ruto maintains a commanding position nationally, leading the presidential race with 32 per cent support.

Kalonzo Musyoka follows in second place with 13 per cent, while Matiang’i and Senator Sifuna are tied at 12 per cent each.

Former Deputy President Gachagua received four per cent nationally, followed by Embakasi East MP Babu Owino at three per cent and former Chief Justice David Maraga at two per cent.

People’s Liberation Party leader Martha Karua received one per cent, while other possible candidates collectively attracted one per cent of voter preference.

The Infotrak survey highlights the evolving political landscape as Kenya heads toward the next general election, with Central Kenya emerging as a key battleground that could determine the outcome of the presidential race.
