Ahead of the formation of the post-Gen Z government, President Uhuru had already succeeded in caging Raila Odinga to not deal with President Ruto.
Even then, it was not so much that President Uhuru wanted Ruto out. Ruto was still in power as the Gen Zs had not toppled him.
He had fired/sacked the higher-ups in the police force (including the IGP) and dissolved cabinet; but he was still the President, still leading a loyal KDF, police force, and Parliament.
People usually forget that the Finance Bill 2024 was passed by a solid Kenya Kwanza majority, in a parliamentary democratic vote that the minority lost. I was in parliament.
Once the Gen Z movement overran parliament and forced President Ruto to hollow out his cabinet, he now had to reconstitute.
You will recall Raila saying how Uhuru sent him to talk to Ruto. This assignment was limited to stabilizing the Ruto state.
Uhuru knew Raila would stabilize the state, without demanding to join the government.
When the matter of ODM joining government came up, the offer having come from the President himself; Uhuru was strenously opposed to it.
He quickly marshalled young ODM politicians to reject the idea.
On the week the post-Gen Z cabinet was to be formed, fearing Raila would renege; Uhuru smuggled him out of Kenya to Dubai, where Baba suddenly became ‘unreachable’.
This is what made Dr. Oburu to singly ‘okay’ the entry into government by Mbadi and Wandayi; and thereafter ‘cc’ Raila Odinga.
Till today, Uhuru has not forgiven Oburu. The good thing is, Dr. Oburu Oginga has no time for Uhuru Kenyatta and his shenanigans.
If it was upto Uhuru, today Luos would be the only people out of government as a collective.
Every community in ODM/Azimio, save for Luos, played “multi-bet” politics in 2022 so they were already in government.
In Uhuru GEMA circles, the desperation to remove Ruto from power is largely the desperation to remove Luos from government.
Uhuru had not intended to give Raila power and had not adjusted to see what’s happening now: Luos inside.
