Two UDA camps emerging in Mt Kenya

1 min read

Deputy President William Ruto’s allies in UDA from the Mt Kenya region are split in the middle over the running mate position and who exactly William Ruto should pick from Mt Kenya as his deputy.

According to reports, one group calling itself ‘Founders’, is strongly behind the push to have Mathira MP Rigthi Gachagua or his Kandara counterpart Alice Wahome considered for the running mate position.

The other faction, ‘Team Order’, largely comprising younger Mt Kenya MPs led by Kiharu’s Ndindi Nyoro and Kimani Ichungwa (Kikuyu Town) is not comfortable with the ‘old wazees’, whom they accuse of arrogance and being power-hungry, deputizing Ruto.

Some members of Team Order have gone ahead to propose Ndindi Nyoro as their best choice for running mate.

There has been disquiet among UDA supporters in Mt Kenya following the entrance of Musalia Mudavadi as a partner of UDA, with some feeling the vote-rich region may end up being sidelined by Ruto if the ANC leader becomes the formation’s running mate.
