Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has claimed that a section of political leaders from the western Kenya, in collusion with county ward representatives plan to impeach him for telling the truth to President William Ruto on the ongoing abduction of youths in the country.
He, however, says that he is not worried over the scheme and told his detractors to go ahead. Natembeya asked his critics to respect the freedom of speech as enshrined in the Constitution and called to an end to the culture of intolerance being witnessed in the country.
“This issue of threatening other leaders for speaking the truth should stop or else our country is heading in the wrong direction “he warned.
What he told Ruto and other leaders, he insisted, was pure truth and that they should not use it to start threatening him with impeachment.
On Saturday during the burial of Ann Nanyama, the mother of National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, Natembeya told Ruto that the government was aware of the youth abductions. The governor told off government functionaries claiming that the youths could be abducting themselves.
He asked the government to take charge and stop blame-games by ending the extra judicial killings in the country.
“Let us protect our young generations and stop abducting them because of criticising the government,” said Natembeya.
The Governor’s sentiments irked National Assembly Leader of Majority Kimani Ichungw’ah who asked him to report to DCI those who were behind the abductions. Ichungw’ah claimed that former Deputy President Rigathi Gachugua together with Natembeya were behind the abductions and now want to blame Ruto.
