The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) secretary-general Edwin Sifuna says the defection of Siaya gubernatorial aspirants Charles Owino and Nicholus Gumbo to the United Democratic Movement (UDM) was a move meant to give the Raila led party a hard time in Siaya in August.
”They must have joined UDM long ago but were hanging around to just make life hard for ODM,” Edwin Sifuna told the Nation.
On Tuesday, Charles Owino, a former police spokesperson said they defected to UDM after being prevailed upon by ODM leadership to step down for Siaya Senator James Orengo who has also been eyeing the ODM party ticket.
”I paid the nomination fee and was to participate in the ODM primaries but I was prevailed upon to stand down for an individual and as our character dictates I said I would not oppose that kind of request. But unfortunately, my supporters said I must run so we decided to team up with Gumbo and have a formidable force,” Charles Owino said.
