Senator Sifuna: ODM will Face Ruto on the Ballot in 2027

Senator Edwin Sifuna has said the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) is keen on taking power from President William Ruto in 2027.

Sifuna is one of the key ODM critics of the broad-based government formed when Ruto and Raila Odinga signed a common working plan. The city senator said the opposition party will field a presidential candidate in the next election.

“ODM exists to fight power in this democratic process. We still intend, and we have not given up on our quest to lead this country. We will be there to face everyone, including even William Ruto.

“And a natural consequence of that is we will make him a one-term president because we want to grab that power from him so that we can do the things we are saying. That is my answer.

“It does not matter how cleverly you frame this question. My views are never going to change because I continue to receive feedback that, even in his so-called development tours, he is facing a lot of resistance,” Sifuna said on May 8, 2025, during a morning talk show with a local TV station.
