As Kenyans were glued to their screens last night, following the momentous BBI ruling, Deputy President William Ruto was at the Hermosa Hotel in Nairobi, meeting a section of Luo Nyanza leaders over 2022.

Sources from the meeting that brought former governors, MPs, and prominent businessmen reveal they discussed state of Nyanza politics and who among the leaders present was most suitable to lead Luo Nyanza, post-Odinga. Earlier in the day, Eliud Owalo, a Ruto ally, held a consultative meeting with the group before meeting the DP.

”They tabled an economic blueprint for the Nyanza region to the DP and demanded it becomes part of UDA manifesto. They also discussed Luo Nyanza politics, and agreed Dalmas Otieno will be representing the Luo nation interests in UDA,” one of the sources confided to this writer.

Those present at the meeting were Eliud Owalo, Jack Ranguma (former Kisumu governor), Martin Ogindo (former Rangwe MP), Grace Akumu (Party leader, Citizen Convention), Ex KCB Head of SMEs Christopher Muginde, Daniel Okumu (Chair, Western Tourism Circuit), Lawyer Dancun Ojwang and Dalmas Otieno (former minister and Rongo MP).

”We have come together as a group of professionals and like-minded progressive politicians under the Auspices of the Luo-Nyanza Economic Caucus to act as a Think Tank that can help craft a conceptual framework that informs a Thematic-Based Economic Agenda for the region,” former Kibra aspirant Eliud Owalo said of their earlier meeting, on his social media on Friday.
