President William Ruto has launched the first tarmac road in Lamu East, Lamu County, on Saturday, November 4, 2023.

After seeing off King Charles III, who had been in the country for three days, the president embarked on a working tour in the region.

Apart from the 50-kilometre road launched by the head of state, access roads aimed at opening up Lamu County will be constructed.

“In Kizingitini, Lamu County launched the construction of Mtangawanda, Faza, Kizingitini, and access roads that will unlock the island’s potential and boost security. This will be the first tarmac road in Lamu East.

“Every part of Kenya is on our national development agenda. The government’s unwavering commitment to constructing and upgrading infrastructure will open up remote and marginalised areas for business and tourism, creating new opportunities in the process for local communities,” Ruto said in a statement on X.

President Ruto also opened up Lamu East Technical and Vocational College (TVET).
